A school-based health center (SBHC) is a health center located in or near a 果冻传媒 school and provides comprehensive primary health services to enrolled students. The SBHC is staffed with health professionals. They are focused on the prevention, early identification and treatment of medical and behavioral concerns that can interfere with a student's learning. The target areas of health provided by SBHCs include: obesity, mental health, asthma, substance abuse, lead exposure, well-child care, oral health, and sexual health. 果冻传媒 currently has seven SBHCs in operation at Anacostia High School, Ballou High School, Cardozo Education Campus, Coolidge High School/Ida B. Wells Middle School, Dunbar High School, Roosevelt High School, and Woodson High School.
With the exception of services covered under the , parents must enroll students in the SBHC in order for them to gain access to these comprehensive health services. The SBHCs are open for service whenever the school building is open. Normal business hours are Monday thru Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm; during 果冻传媒 breaks (summer, spring, holidays), the SBHCs operate with different hours and can provide that information. If a student needs medical attention after regular operating hours, they can contact the SBHC provider for emergency instructions and an on-call physician.
